Welcome to the DAWRA website !
The website for the Dutch Arabian Western Riding Association.
Here you can find information about our organisation, our activities and the use of the Arabian horse in western sport.
Dawra was established in 1998 to promote and develop the purebred Arabian horse in the sport of western riding. Pure bred Arabians are much more than just show horses and in the past few years many pure bred horses and their riders have demonstrated just how suitable and successful they are in the western sport.
With their gentle, loyal and honest characters you will find the Arabian horse very willing to please. Their size is also particularly suited for western work. The Arabians horses are active in a wide range of western disciplines from trail to reining, western pleasure, working cow horse and cutting. They are able to stand their ground and demonstrate an understanding of cow sense.
A natural talent of the Arabian horse is given a great opportunity to be demonstrated in western riding and that is the Arabians ability to have effortless and fluid flying changes in canter.
In the past few years pure bred Arabian horses have had many successes at a National Champion level of Western Riding and Versatile Horse.
Since 2004 alongside the pure bred Arabian horses, horse with a minimum of 50 % Arabian blood have been welcome to join Dawra and take part in her many activities.

Throughout the year Dawra organises events held throughout the Netherlands for beginners, amateurs and professional riders. Some of these events are organised in conjunction with WRAN the ‘Western Riders Association Netherlands’ and the AVS, The Arabische Volbloedpaarden Stamboek , Dutch stud book for the Arabian Horses.
Alongside various competitions Dawra starts the competitive year off with several training and practice competitions for less experienced riders and also experienced riders working with young and inexperienced horses. It is a great opportunity for all to learn in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
During such training competitions in depth explanations are given over a variety of aspects and competition tactics by a qualified Judge.
Dawra also organises various clinics through the country and through out the year.
Passion , fun and team building are key words within the philosophy of Dawra.
