Who are we

Evolving and with ever growing enthusiasm “DAWRA”.

Dutch Arabian Western Riding Association.

“Let’s go ride …the greatest pride !”

Who are we?

Since its creation in 1998 the aim of Dawra has been to promote and develop the Arabian horse in the western sport. Since 2004 alongside purebreds we have welcomed horses with a minimum of 50 % pure Arabian blood.

This in answer to a long held wish of part bred owners to be able to become actively involved and take part in the competitions available to Dawra members.

Although a large number of our members start off at Dawra shows, now a days more and more people are becoming involved in competitions run by WRAN and the National Championships organised by Wran and which are open to all breeds. i.e. not exclusively for Arabians horses.

Every year more and more people are becoming aware of the much loved Arabian horse. They are able to see that horses with Arabian blood make good western sport horses and that these horses have much to offer beyond the show ring.

The Pure bred Arabian with its gentle honest and trustworthy nature is a horse willing to please. They are intelligent, fast, light of foot , agile and responsive. There height is naturally suited to western work.
Arabians compete in all the western disciplines from trail to reining , western pleasure, working cow horse and cutting. Working cattle seems to appeal to Arabians and they have an interesting natural ‘cow’ sense when working with cows.

The natural ease with which Arabian horses are able to make flying changes in canter gives them a natural advantage in the world of western riding compared to many other breeds.

The Dutch National Western and Versatile Horse Championships have been won regularly by Arabian horses in the past few years.
Dawra since its creation has paid a lot of attention to developing and promoting western sport. They have successfully organised and held a wide range of clinics. These clinics have not only been popular with the pure bred Arabian riders and Dawra members but fellow western riders working with a wide range of breeds.
The training competitions are now an accepted concept, with the in hand trail clinics receiving eager attention as in deed are the Dawra reining clinics and we are finding that the working cow horse clinics and the Hunter clinics are becoming more and more popular as well.

Shows are always included in our program. These shows are often organised by Dawra in collaboration with other western organisations such as WRAN (Western Riding Association Netherland), DPHC ( Dutch Paint Horse Club, or FNW (Federation Netherlands Western Organisations). Of course many successful shows are organised in conjunction with the AVS the Arabian stud book. The AVS Western Riding Cup has become an established tradition and of course Dawra organises their own shows including the Dutch Championships.

Since its formation over ten years ago Dawra has become an enthusiastic and committed group working closely to support one another and with a friendly competitiveness
